Acceptable Use Policy

At CarbonX, our mission is to empower you and your team to do your best work — every day. To make this possible, we’re committed to keeping our products and services reliable, fast, and distraction-free. To help us maintain that standard, we ask all users to use CarbonX responsibly. This means avoiding misuse or abuse of our products, services, and infrastructure. To clarify what we mean by “misuse” or “abuse,” we’ve established this Acceptable Use Policy. It outlines the behaviors and activities that are not permitted when using CarbonX.

Under this policy, CarbonX reserves the right to take appropriate action when we encounter content or behavior that violates — or appears inconsistent with — the spirit of these guidelines, even if it’s not explicitly mentioned here. In short, if something resembles the kinds of actions prohibited below, we may treat it as a violation.

Throughout this policy, the term “services” refers to all CarbonX products and platforms, including our websites, web applications, subdomains, and any associated cloud-based or hosted services operated by CarbonX.

We encourage all users to use sound judgment and treat others with respect, integrity, and professionalism. By following these principles, we can maintain a safe, inclusive, and productive environment for everyone who uses CarbonX.

For detailed legal terms and conditions, please refer to the full set of documents available at the bottom of this page.

Prohibited Conduct

Below are examples of actions and behaviors that are not permitted when using CarbonX services. These restrictions exist to protect the integrity, security, and reliability of our systems, as well as the experience of all users.

1. Disruption

You may not engage in any activity that interferes with, disrupts, or compromises the security, performance, or availability of CarbonX systems, networks, or services. Prohibited activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Compromising system security – Attempting to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any system or network that hosts our services, unless such testing is explicitly authorized in writing by CarbonX.

  • Tampering or unauthorized access – Hacking, reverse-engineering, modifying, or otherwise interfering with the functionality of our services; bypassing security or authentication measures; or attempting to gain unauthorized access to CarbonX systems, networks, or data.

  • Integrity interference – Modifying, disabling, or compromising the performance, stability, or integrity of our services or related systems.

  • Intercepting transmissions – Deciphering, intercepting, or attempting to intercept any data or communications transmitted to or from the servers that operate our services.

  • Infrastructure overload – Overwhelming or attempting to overwhelm our infrastructure by imposing excessive loads on our systems, such as:

    • Using automated tools like “robots,” “spiders,” or “offline readers” to send more requests than a human could reasonably produce with a standard browser in the same time frame.

    • Operating beyond the documented or intended use parameters for a given service.

    • Consuming excessive storage, bandwidth, or computing resources (e.g., for music, video, or other unrelated content) in ways that fall outside the service’s intended purpose.

CarbonX reserves the right to take action, including service restriction or account suspension, if such activities are detected or suspected. These measures ensure system reliability and protect all users’ access to a secure and high-performing platform.

2. Wrongful Activities

You may not use CarbonX services for any unlawful, deceptive, or harmful purpose, or in any way that infringes on the rights or safety of others. Prohibited wrongful activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Misrepresentation and identity deception – Impersonating another individual or organization; misrepresenting your affiliation with CarbonX or any third party; disguising or falsifying the origin of content through methods such as “spoofing,” “phishing,” or manipulating headers and identifiers.

  • Invasion of privacy – Violating the privacy or personal data of others, including publishing or distributing private or confidential information without explicit consent, or collecting personal information (such as account details, credentials, or contact information) through unauthorized means.

  • Harassment and threats – Using the services to harass, stalk, bully, intimidate, or issue explicit or implicit threats of violence toward any individual or group.

  • Unlawful use – Using CarbonX services to engage in, promote, or facilitate illegal activities, including violations of data protection, privacy, or export control laws.

  • Unauthorized access or scraping – Accessing, searching, or attempting to retrieve information from our services using any automated system, tool, or method other than the publicly supported interfaces provided by CarbonX (e.g., web browsers, official APIs).

  • Misuse of trademarks and metadata – Using CarbonX’s or any supplier’s product names, trademarks, or branding in hidden text, meta tags, or other metadata intended to mislead users or manipulate search results.

CarbonX is committed to maintaining a trusted, lawful, and respectful digital environment. Any violation of these provisions may result in corrective actions, including suspension or termination of access, as determined appropriate by CarbonX.

3. Inappropriate Communications

You may not use CarbonX services to transmit, promote, or facilitate communications that are unsolicited, disruptive, or harmful to the platform, its users, or its reputation. Prohibited activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Unsolicited or bulk messaging – Generating or sending spam, chain letters, junk mail, or other forms of unsolicited or mass communications through our services.

  • Unauthorized solicitation – Contacting CarbonX users for commercial, promotional, or recruitment purposes without explicit written authorization from CarbonX.

  • Disparagement and defamation – Publishing or transmitting false, misleading, or disparaging statements about CarbonX, its partners, affiliates, vendors, or personnel.

  • Unauthorized promotions – Advertising or promoting third-party products, services, or organizations through CarbonX’s services without prior approval or applicable agreement.

CarbonX aims to maintain an environment that fosters professionalism, collaboration, and mutual respect. Any use of our services to distribute spam, harass users, or harm the reputation of CarbonX or its partners may result in enforcement action, including account suspension or termination.

4. Inappropriate Content

You may not use CarbonX services to post, upload, share, submit, or otherwise provide any content that violates the law, infringes on others’ rights, or undermines the integrity or safety of the platform or its users.

Prohibited content includes, but is not limited to, material that:

  • Infringes intellectual property or proprietary rights – Violates or misuses CarbonX’s or any third party’s intellectual property rights, including copyrights, trademarks, patents, trade secrets, moral rights, rights of publicity, or contractual rights. This also applies where CarbonX receives notice of alleged infringement in accordance with our [Reporting Guidelines].

  • Lacks appropriate authorization – Includes content that you do not have the legal right or necessary permissions to submit or distribute.

  • Is false, fraudulent, or deceptive – Misleads others through misinformation, falsified data, or fraudulent claims.

  • Contains harmful, illegal, or explicit material – Is obscene, defamatory, libelous, threatening, harassing, or otherwise unlawful; includes sexually explicit content (including child sexual abuse material, which will be removed and reported to law enforcement and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children).

  • Promotes or incites harm – Depicts, encourages, or glorifies violence, self-harm, or other dangerous, illegal, or tortious acts.

  • Targets or discriminates against others – Attacks or demeans individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability, medical condition, or any other protected status.

In this Acceptable Use Policy, “content” refers to:

  1. Any information, data, text, software, code, scripts, music, audio, sound, images, graphics, videos, recordings, messages, tags, interactive features, or other materials that you create, post, upload, share, submit, or otherwise provide through the services.

  2. Any other material, data, or submissions provided to CarbonX or used in connection with the services, including materials contributed by others that you have authorized or facilitated.

Enforcement and Action

CarbonX reserves the right to interpret these guidelines and determine appropriate responses at its sole discretion. Without limiting other remedies available to us, CarbonX may temporarily or permanently remove or restrict access to any content, or suspend or terminate user accounts, without notice or liability, if we determine that a violation has occurred.

Users agree to cooperate with CarbonX in any investigation or remedial action taken to resolve policy violations and maintain a safe and compliant platform for all users.
